What are the 3 layers of skin?
Epidermis,dermis,hypodermis
Epidermis is composed of?
connective tissue: areolar & adipose, collagen,elastic fibers,epithelial tissue,smoothmuscle tissue & blood
5 strata of the Epidermis in order (deepest to most superficial)
1. stratum basale 2. stratum spinosum 3. stratum granulosom 4. stratum lucidum 5. stratum corneum
Stratum Basale
deepest, closest to dermis(blood supply), single ow of cuboidal or columnar keratinytes, continually undergo cell division
Stratum Spinosum
8-10 layers tightly packed sided keratinytes, centrally located, large, oval nuclei, developing fibers of keratin, find melanin granules
Stratum Granulosum
middle layer, 5 layers tightly packed many sided keratinocytes, flattened, undergoing apoptosis
Stratum Lucidum
present ONLY in thick skin,3-5 layers of clear flat dead keratinocytes, cells are clear, nuclei & other organelles not visible
Stratum Corneum
Most superficial layer, 25-30 layers of dead flat keratinocytes, no nucleus, continually shed & replaced by cells from deepest strata
4 types of cells found in the Epidermis
1.Keratinocytes 2.melanocytes 3.langehans cells 4.merkel cells
