Structure
Organization of clauses in a sentence.

Purpose
The intent or function of the sentence.
What are the 4 sentence purposes?
declarative, exclamatory, interrogative, imperative
Pattern
Arrangement of words in a sentence.
Subject
The part of a sentence about which something is being said.
Predicate
The part of the sentence which says something about the subject.
Simple Sentence
Has one independent clause and expresses a complete thought.
Compound Sentence
Consists of at least two independent clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction.
Complex Sentence
Consists of one independent clause and at least one subordinate clause.
Compound-Complex Sentence
Consists of at least two independent clauses and at least one subordinate clause.
Declarative
makes a statement and ends with a period.
Exclamatory
expresses strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark.
Interrogative
asks a question and ends with a question mark.
Imperative
Expresses a command and ends in a period or exclamation point.
