Chorionic gonadotropin
Placenta- produces progesterone and estrogen during pregnancy. Positive test
Glucagon
Pancreas- produced by alpha cells. Increases blood glucose level. Antagonist with insulin
Insulin
Pancreas- produced by beta cells. Decreased blood glucose level. Antagonist with glucagon
Parathyroid hormone (PTH)
Parathyroids- increases blood calcium by increasing bone break down
Calcitonin
Thyroid gland (neck) *can store hornones* decreases blood calcium by decreasing bone break down
Oxytocin
Posterior pituitary- (released here, produced in hypothalamus) initiates labor, milk let down, positive feedback
Growth hormone (GH)
Anterior pituitary- promotes growth, increases blood glucose
Type 1 diabetes
Diagnosed at childhood, pancreas problem, 0-no insulin produced. Treated by insulin
Type 2 diabetes
Later in life, cellular problem, treat with diet, exercise, medication, insulin
Hypothalamus
Produces oxytocin, ADH, releasing and inhibiting hormone
