Lead
the beginning of a news story, often consisting of just one sentence
Inverted Pyramid
a style of newswriting in which the main facts appear at the top of the article (the lead) and less-significant facts follow until the end

a lead that provides the briefest possible summary of the major facts of a story in the first sentence

Tease
to use a lead that coaxes readers into a story by encouraging them to read further to see what the lead really means
Quote lead
a lead that begins with an unattributed quote, usually to be avoided because it is unclear.
Question lead
a lead that begins with a question, generally to be avoided.
Descriptive lead
a lead that attempts to create a picture in the reader's mind
Action lead
a lead that sets up the action/conflict for the story in the first couple of sentences
Dialogue lead
a lead that begins with a conversation between two or more characters
