What is an algorithm?
• a way of setting out a step-by-step mathematical procedure
What is an array?
• a set of objects or numbers arranged in order, often in rows and columns
What are basic facts?
• addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts mainly using one or two-digit
numbers.
What is a factor?
• a whole number that multiplies with another number to make a third number.
What is a fact family?
* a set of three numbers that can be divided or multiplied together
What are inverse operations?
• opposite, reverse operations
What are multiples?
• a sequence of products using the same base number multiplied by different numbers.
What is multiplication?
a mathematical operation where a number is added to itself a number of times.
What is the multiplication principle?
in probability when you multiply all of the different combinations together to determine the
total number of objects
What is multiplicative identity?
• one is the multiplicative identity, a number which multiplies other numbers without
changing their value.
What is a number sentence?
a mathematical sentence written in numerals and symbols
What are operations?
mathematical procedures or processes used to work something out.
What are operation properties?
a series of properties, rules or laws associated with mathematical operations and equality.
Some examples are commutative, associative, etc.
What is a product?
the answer to a multiplication sentence, example 2 X 2, product is 4
What are signs and symbols?
commonly used to represent values, equality, operations, grouping and mathematical terms.
What are times tables?
multiplication facts organized in a table.
What is a whole number?
• a counting number from zero to infinity
What is the zero product property?
if the product of two or more numbers is zero, then one or more of those numbers must also be zero.
