A narrow neckline that starts near or at one shoulder and ends near or at the other shoulder with
only a slight dip in the neck.
Boat Neck
Slight flare from the knee down. Removes focus from hips and belly.
Bootcut
A long, thin, tube-shaped glass bead.
Bugle
A sheer fabric of silk, nylon in a plain weave.
Chiffon
The end part of a sleeve or pant, where the material is turned back of a seperate band is sewn on.
Cuff
Tops or dresses with cut-outs exposing the shoulders. It's a fresh and sexy option.
Cold Shoulder
A sleeve that is very wide at the armhole and narrows toward the waist. Works with many
different body types.
Dolman
The addition of decorative details or feature to make an item more attractive and versatile.
Embellishment
Fabric with a raised design , created by engraving a metal cylinder then impressing it with
heat and pressure.
Embossed
Small, flat-cut surfaces that cause a sparkling effect on a transparent, translucent, and
even opaque materials in jewlery.
Faceted
A style where the hem-line in the front or one side of a top, shirt, or dress is drastically
shorter than the back hemline.
Hi Lo Hemline
A transparent panel or yoke is attracted to the bodice that extends from the bust to the collar;
often constructed of tulle.
Illusion Neckline
A zipper with the flat teeth inserted an hidden in an entirely open seam.
Invisible Zipper
A fabric with an intricately woven pattern; the design is incorporated into the weave instead
of being printed or died.
Jacquard
Leggings which are styled to look like tight denium jeans.
Jeggings
Soft and supple to the touch and can be found in "smooth" and "shearing" varieties.
Lambskin Leather
The section on each side of a coat or jacket immediately below the collar that is folded back.
Lapel
A process in which latex inks are used to print directly onto fabric.
Latex Printing
Tight form fitting bottoms often worn under another piece of clothing.
Leggings
A type of fabric characterized by it's net like open appearance.
Mesh
Added to fabrics, such as leather, with heat to create a metallic finish.
Metallic Foil
A straight slim-fitting skirt with a narrow cut- usually to or just below the knee and is
tailored for a close fit.
Pencil Skirt
A short, flared gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached to the waist of a woman's jacket,
dress, or blouse.
Peplum
A manufactured fabric that is made by synthesized polymers. It's resilient, quick drying,
resistent to mold and mildew and easy to wash.
Poly
A fabric made in a double knit construction . It has a smooth finish than regular knit fabric and
has an elastic quality.
Ponte
A fabric formed by using coarse yarns in a plain weave that gives it a corded or ribbed surface.
Poplin
A small shiny disk sewn on clothing for decoration.
Sequin
A piece of fabric worn by women over the shoulders or head.
Shawl
A close fitting dress that may have darts at the breast and curves slightly inward at the waist.
Sheeth Dress
A solid, usually sleeveless, top that is great for layering.
Shell
A technique similar to gathering. Consists of two or more gathered fabric used to decorate
parts of garments.
Shirring
A diagonally crossed neckline or bodice thate creates the look of a wrap dress or top with a deep
v-shaped neckline.
Surplice
A long, belted , double breasted waterproof coat.
Trench Coat
A top with a hemline that reaches somewhere between the hips and mid-thigh.
Tunic
Refers to the inverted triangle shape of the dress. Its roomy in the shoulders and slims in hips
and tights.
Wedge Dress
A piece of garment that is closely fitted either around the neck and shoulders or at the hips.
