Unit 1.2.4 Types of Programming Language
13 cards·by gurundus
When are low level languages most useful?
many device drivers are written in a low level language, as they are useful for close control
ofthe CPU. their programs can be very efficent
What are the disadvantage of using a low level language?
They can be difficult to use as the programming commands can be quite obscure, and the
programmers must know alot about the CPU.
What are some examples of Procedural Languages?
FORTRAN, COBOL, Pascal and C
What are the advantages of using a Procedural Language?
Good for general purpose programming, alot of there alogirthms are tried and tested, they
don't require intricate knowledge of the CPU
What are the disadvantages of using a procedural programming language?
They are poor at handling fuzzy conditions and you have to be very specialized to know how to use
it properly.
What is the concept of OOP?
OOP uses the idea of self-contained objects, which contain both the programming routines and
the data being processed
What is an advantage of OOP?
they tend to be more reliable as objects are self containted and easier to program.
What are the disadvantages of OOP?
becoming proficient in an OOP language can be difficult, This complexity requires skill to
create efficient classes, they are less efficent.
What are the main conepts within OOP?
Class, Object, Attributes, Methods and Inheritance.
What are examples of Non-Procedural/Declarative Languages?
Prolog and SQL.
When are Non-Procedural/Declarative Language used?
They are typically used in AI, logic based and knowledge based systems, or expert systems
What are Functional Languages?
These languages are concerned with providing answers to problems purely by applying
calculations to input data
What are the different types of Memory Addressing Modes?
Direct Addressing, Indirect Addressing, Immediate Addressing and Indexed Addressing.
