Kinetic Theory of Matter
The idea that all matter is made up of constantly moving tiny particles.
Evaporation
The gradual change of a substance from a liquid to a gas at temperatures below the boiling point.
Sublimination
The process in which a solid changes directly to a vapor without forming a liquid.
Condensation
The change of a substance from a gas to a liquid which usually takes place when a gas is cooled to or below its boiling point.
Thermal Expansion
A characteristic of almost all matter that causes it to expand when heated and contract when cooled.
Solid
Whole shape, fixed volume (don't change shape)
Liquid
Shape of container free surface, fixed volume, sticks together but, moves around.
Gas
Shape of container, volume of container, will fill the whole thing
Homogenus
When two substances are mixed and formed (salt mixes with water)
Heterogenus
When two substances are mixed and create a non-uniform solution (water and oil don't mix)
Macroscopic Properties
Those that can be observed in bulk matter.
