Law of Original Horizontality
In any undisturbed sequence of strata, states younger rocks are on top, and older layers at the bottom.
Law of Superposition
states Rock layers do not just end - they gradually weed out
Law of Lateral Continuity
Any feature that cuts across a body of sediment or rock is younger than the body of sediment or rock that it cuts across.
The Cross-Cutting Law
If one rock contains fragments or another rock body it must be younger than fragments of rock it contains
