Arduino
Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects
Microcontroller
A physical programmable circuit board
IDE (Integrated Development Environment)
A piece of software that runs on your computer, used to write and upload computer code to the physical board
The Arduino Uno
one of the more popular boards in the Arduino family and a great choice for beginners
Pins
The places where you connect wires to construct a circuit (probably in conjuction with a breadboard and some wire
GND
Short for ‘Ground’. There are several GND pins on the Arduino, any of which can be used to ground your circuit
5V and 3.3V
5V pin supplies 5 volts of power, and the 3.3V pin supplies 3.3 volts of power
Analog
The area of pins under the ‘Analog In’ label (A0 through A5) are Analog In pins. These pins can read an analog value of voltage
Digital
Across from the analog pins are the digital pins (2 through 13). These pins can be used for both digital input (like telling if a button is
PWM
These pins act as normal digital pins, but can also be used for something called Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) that simulates analog output (
TX
Short for transmit
RX
Short for receive
Push button
Button that connects the pins
Voltage
an electromotive force or potential difference expressed in volts
Random generation
Something (such as a number) that is produced with no particular order
Blink
To flash on and off quickly
Diagram
a simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or workings of something; a schematic representation
RGB LED
A combination of 3 different LED: red, green and blue
Piezoelectric buzzer
A device that produces sound (beeps or alerts)
PWM
(Pulse Width Modulation) consists in modifying the length of digital outputs. This way the average value changes
Servos
Motors that are designed to turn to a specific position according to a control signal. They hold that position until getting a new signal
Serial Communication
Allows communication between computer and arduino board, while the program is being run
Potentiometer
a simple knob that provides a variable resistance, which we can read into the Arduino board as an analog value
