What is Bone/Osseous Tissue
Hardest most rigid connective tissue made up of minerals mostly calcium salts in the matrix.
What does Osseous Tissue do?
Provides the rigidness for the skeletal system.AKA makes up your bones
What makes up connective tissue?
Matrix and Fibroblast
What is a matrix?
The intercellualar substance in connective tissue.(Inside of the Tissue)
What is Fibroblast?
Cell that produces fibers in connective tissue.
What is Fibrocartiladge?
Tightly packed collagenous fibers between short rows of chondrocytes.
What does fibrocartiladge make up?
Invertebral Disks, Knee Joints, Symphysis pubis
Where is loose/Areolar connective tissue?
EVERYWHERE
What is loose or Areolar connective tissue?
Loose arrangement of collagenous and elastic fibers in semifluid(stretchy substance)
What does loose/Areolar connective tissue do?
Attaches your skin to your muscle, forms supporting framework for organs, site for immune reaction
In easy terms what is loose/Areolar connestive tissue?
loose jelly like substance that hols your skin together
What is adipose tissue?
closely packed fat cells
What does adipose tissue do?
Forms protective cushion around organs, insulates the body, and stores energy
What is Fibrose connective tissue?
a Matrix that contains densely packed calagenous fibers
In Fibrose connective tissue how are the fibroblast arranged?
in rows
what does Fibrose connective tissue cover?
Skeletal Muscle
What does fibrose connective tissue do?
Forms tendons that bind muscle to bones and ligaments that bind bones to bones
What is cartilage?
Connective tissue with a relatively rigid semisolid matrix
What is cartilage made of?
Chrondrocytes (cartilage cells)
what is the function on cartilage
support and protect
What are the three types of cartilage
hyaline, elastic, and fibrocartilage
What is elastic connective tissue
Matrix with many elastic fibers and scattered fibroblasts
what does elastic connective tissue create?
Walls of the blood vessels, air passages, and lungs
What does elastic connective tissue do?
allows expansion and contraction. It is very flexible
what does hyaline cartilage look like
Smooth glassy white
what does hyaline cartilage do?
Covers the ends of bones at the joints, forms the walls of air passages, and supports part of your nose
what is elastic cartilage
similar to hyaline but contains more elastic fibers
what does elastic cartilage do
forms larynx(voice box) and other frame network for the outer ear
What is connective tissue
Tissue that binds other tissue together
Where is connective tissue found
Never on exposed surfaces
What are the 2 categories of connective tissue?
Connective tissue proper and Specialized connective tissue
What do the endocrine glands do
Because they lack ducts they release their secretions into the blood which then carries them to the target tissue
What are some examples of endocrine glands?
Thyroid and adrenal glands
What do exocrine glands
Small ducts that carry secretions to specific areas
What are some examples of exocrine glads
Sweat and salivary glands
what does stratified columnar epithelium do?
Lines the pharynx and male urethra and are pretty rare
What are columnar epithelium shaped like?
Columns
What is stratified cubodial epithelium shaped like
cube shaped
What are Stratified cubodial epithelium
they line larger ducts of certain glands(Mammary and Salivary) They are pretty rare. They line sweat glands
What does transitional epithelium do
lines the urinary bladder(stretches out as the bladder fills with urine)
What is transitional epithelium?
mulitlayered upstretched cells are large rounded
What is keratin
has a waterproofing protein formed in the epidermis, nails and hair
What are the 2 forms of Stratified squamous epithelium?
Keratinized and nonkeratinized
What is Keratinized stratified squamous epithelium
forms the outer layer of skin(Epidermis) resistant to abrasion
What is nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium
lines the mouth, esophagus and vagina. Resistant to abrasion
What is stratified epithelium?
more than one layer of cells that are durable to abrasion. Only the innermost layer produce new cells(mitosis)
What is the function of stratified epithelium?
to protect underlying tissue
What is pseudostratified cilated columnar epithelium
a single layer of cells that appears to be multilayered because the nucleui are located all over
what do pseudostratified cilated columnar epithelium do?
Line the upper respiratory passages, collect and remove particles trapped in mucus, moved particles to the throat to be swallowed or coughed
What is simple columnar epithelium
a single layer of column shaped cells with goblet cells scattered among them which secrete mucus and contain cilia
What do simple columnar epithelium do?
line the uterus, stomach, intestines, and increase cell absorption in that surface area
What are the 4 types of tissue
epithelial, nerve, connective, muscle
what is tissue?
a group of cells with similar functions
What does epithelial tissue do
covers the surfaces of the body, lines body cavities, lines cavities around organs, forms the secretory portion of glands
How is epithelial tissue classified?
Layers and shape
Where is simple epithelium located?
located where diffusion, secretion, or filtration occur in the body
What is simple epithelium?
Single layer of cells that can be flat, cube like or column shape
What is simple cuboidial epithelium
single layer of cube shape cells that have one central nucleus
What do simple cuboidial epithelium do?
Form secretion portion of glands
Where is simple cuboidal epithelium located
Thryoid gland, kidney tubules where respiration occurs, and surface of your ovaries
What is endothelium
The inside of the blood vessel
What does the endothelium do
Squamos endothemium lining the interior of the heart, blood vessels , and lymphatic vessels
What is the endothemium's main purpose
Diffusion, secretion, filtration
What do simple squamous epithelium look like?
Flat fried egg shaped, with a central nucleus
Where can you find simple squamous epithelium?
the lungs
