Skeletal Muscle
Termed striated with parallel muscle fibres, under conscious control.
Smooth Muscle
Non-striated with non-parallel muscle fibres, under unconscious control
Cardiac Muscle
Striated with non-parallel muscle fibres, involuntary muscle of the heart, under concious
control.
Functions of Skeletal Muscle
Movement, Posture/Balance, Protection, Temperature
Isometric muscle contraction
muscle tension with no movement, ex. Plank.
Isotonic muscle contractions
Concentric: tension by shortening the muscle, ex. Curling a dumbbell. OR Eccentric: tension
by lengthening the muscle, ex. Negatives
Levers contain 3 parts...
Fulcrum, Force, Resistance
Fulcrum
joint where movement occurs
Force
muscle or gravity that is applied to the moveable bone.
Resistance
the weight being moved
1st Class Lever: similar to seesaw
Fulcrum is in the middle with weight/resistance on either side ex. head extension
2nd Class Lever: similar to wheelbarrow
Fulcrum at the end of the lever, with resistance close to the fulcrum/force further away
3rd Class Lever: most of them
Fulcrum at the end of the lever, with resistance toward the other end of the lever and the force
between the resistances
O: Origin
Proximal attachment of the trunk (Closes to the trunk)
I: Insertion
Distal attachment of the trunk (Furthest from the trunk)
A: Action
The action of the muscle on one or more articulations
